I tend to try and read a lot while I’m in Mexico and…I just finished HOUSE OF DREAMS by Pauline Gedge. I’ve never read this author before and I was impressed with her prose and her historical research on ancient Egypt. When I get home, I will probably head to Chapters and pick up another one of her books. Another great thing about Gedge is that she is Canadian and actually lives in Alberta. I absolutly love it when I a Canadian writer that I have never read before.
I’m home on December 3rd and am getting a bit anxious about my book Home Ice and how it is selling. Why do we writers worry so much? Nature of the beast, I guess. I know I’ve said this a ton of times but it really is a great Christmas gift, stocking stuffer, for that Canadian fan. The book will fill a lot of space in a stocking!!!

A great read!
Monday, November 30th, 2009Hello from Mexico!
Sunday, November 29th, 2009I’m still in Mexico. Our house is located in Salchi Bay which is an area just outside Huatulco. I love it down here: the people, the food, the weather. Today we, (my daughter and her friend are also here), went by dune buggy to a place called St. Augustine which is a really wonderful snorkling beach. Restaurants line the beach and you can eat and snorkel. By the way, the fish tacos are wonderful! Well, so are the Coronas. The dune buggy ride from Salchi Bay is through the back roads and at one point we had to cross the Coyula river, just before we hit the village of Coyula. Then we drive through the trees before we hit the main road leading to our snorkeling destination. Being Saturday, the beach was filled with locals enjoying the sun and the snorkeling.
I’m back on December 3rd and I’ve heard it is snowing in Calgary. Yikes!
Mexico
Thursday, November 19th, 2009I’m in Mexico, enjoying the sun and sand. I love it down here: the people, the food, the slower pace of life. After working so hard on HOME ICE, to get it on the shelves, it is nice to take a break…but, of course, like any writer who just has had a book published I worry about sales. That’s the nature of the beast. I have come up with some new fiction ideas, however, now that my mind is free of clutter. Onwards. As a writer, I am always thinking, thinking of new ideas that could make good books. And, believe me, once I slow down and have a project launched the ideas start to come fast and furious. But, hey, that’s the best part of being a writer. Anyway, don’t forget, HOME ICE is a great Christmas gift and available!!! Just check the links on my books page.
First Review for Home Ice
Sunday, November 15th, 2009Okay, so my first review came today for Home Ice and I have to say I was nervous when I started reading it. But then I relaxed because I was happy that this reviewer gave such a good synopsis about the book. Anyway, it was from Garth Woolsey at the Toronto Star and his best line was that the books was an “in-advance combination of information package and keepsake.” Well, he said some other good things too. But I liked that because that is what Fenn, my publisher, tried to do with the book, make it into a keepsake. Woolsey also lets everyone know that, “In the back are game sheets so readers can pencil in the results as they happen, starting with Game 1 vs. Norway on Feb 16th, plus a bracket-style synoposis with the label, naturally, “path to gold”.”
All in all this was a great review to let Olympic hockey fans across Canada in on the book and to encourage fans to get cracking and get some Christmas gifts for their favourite people.
HOME ICE IS AVAILABLE
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009HOME ICE IS AVAILABLE. Hubby and I went out to a movie the other night and had a few moments to kill before the movie started so we went to the Chapters which was just across the parking lot. I was shocked when I saw Home Ice on the table with all the other sports books. It looked great! I love the jersey on the front cover. This is a great gift for any Canadian hockey fan, young or old, because you can pick your team and write it down in the back of the book. Plus, there is a page for following the Men’s Hockey Games at the Olympics and you can write down all the scores. By the way, I will be attending the Olympics and blogging every day! Make sure you tune in.
