I love reading good books and I just finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. I thoroughly enjoyed her character development of Jacob as a young man and an old man. The book flips back and forth between the two. So much of the old man reminded me of my mother and what she goes through in her day-to-day life. She lives in an assisted living facility, which is unlike the character in the book because he is in full care. But so much of what they are going through is similiar; the feeling as if suddenly everyone is trying to run your life. I know one of my mother’s favourite comments, which she often mutters under her breath as we try to convince her to do something is, “Everyone is always trying to tell me what to do.” Which, of course, is ironic because she always told us what to do. Getting older can be a tough go. That’s for sure.
By the way the info on the circus in this book is marvellous.
