My PRESENTATIONS:

Author Visit - Lorna will read from her current work! Then she'll discuss the process of getting a book published. How she goes from idea to finished product, including editing and editing and editing. She will encourage all students to rewrite their work, after all, it's what writers do. A question and answer period will end the visit. All questions will be answered, (including any hockey questions), but the only one that won't be answered is, "How old are you?" And she will wear her 2002 Canadian Hockey Jersey signed by all the players and Wayne Gretzky.

WORKSHOPS:

Creating Cool Characters - Let's have some fun and develop some cool characters. In this workshop, you can learn how to create characters that will jump off the page by role playing. Lorna brings a suitcase full of costumes and students will get to put them on and pretend to be a character. First the acting, then the writing. Emphasis will be on having fun with description and dialogue.

Lights, Camera, Action - Lorna will bring her suitcase full of costumes and students will get to perform! After performing, students will write sentences that are filled with action and action words.

Mystery Writing - In this workshop the student will learn about the craft of mystery writing, including plotting, pacing and setting. Students will learn how to create a protaganist who is believable, (even if the main character is an alien or animal) and how to use minor characters to advance the mystery. And what about those red herrings?

How to become a Writer - This workshop is for those who are serious about the craft of writing and have something started. Come prepared to make your story the best it can be. This can be tailored to fiction or non-fiction. Learn how to write a query letter and a synopsis to send to those agents and publishers!

Novel Writing - Let's take an idea and somehow make it into an outline for a book. This workshop is hands on and gets the students thinking about setting, plot, characters and novel structure. They learn how to build their story to a climax, and make it exciting and focused.
